our initiatives

Stewart Properties is honoured to have many valued community partnerships that challenge us to come up with unique housing solutions or convert exisiting buildings for and with them.

These creative housing solutions for community non-profits, that in many cases allow them to provide integrated on site support by staff, are just a few of the types of projects we are passionate about. Whether it is a new build, renovation or an existing building we knew we could utilize to fill affordable housing gaps within the city, below are some of our favourite initiatives.

CrossRoads Housing Continuum

A two building partnership providing housing and support to those looking to access the outreach resources of the Salvation Army Outreach team. With several dedicated full time staff, including an addictions counsellor, residents are able to receive help with budgeting, getting to and from appointments, navigating social services and other great benefits.

With a mix of one and two bedroom suites between the two buildings, this new partnership has already allowed many tenants to be supported, receive stable housing and counselling.

A partnership between Stewart Properties and STR8 UP, our building at 118 Avenue P South is a twelve unit building that offers transitional housing for those need additional support after being released from federal or provincial institutions or have current criminal justice involvement. Offering on site staff to help individuals to get back on their feet through help obtaining their IDs, aiding them in accessing medical care and addressing addictions, education employment and community support connections and eventually helping them to find longer term housing.

An eight unit building in the heart of Pleasant Hill that had seen years of misuse, Stewart Properties obtained 411 Avenue P South in the beginning of 2020 with the original intention of keeping it strictly residential. When the talks became more serious about moving our office location from renting in the North Industrial area closer to the residents we house a wild idea of adding two floors of office space to the top of this building was born.

In June of 2021 we reopened the doors to start housing individuals through our different community group partners. Our labour of love project, the building became known as The Rise and the home of Stewart Properties.

the RISE

A completely vacant building full of damages and graffiti we knew when purchasing this building that it needed a lot of love but also saw it for the great potential it had. Eleven units in this building went through a major overhaul that is still one of our favourite before and after’s we’ve ever done!

After the renovations were completed, we initially struggled to find applicants that would be the right fit for the building. A blessing in disguise, this turned into the amazing opportunity of being able to offer the entire building to Prairie Harm Reduction for their family support program. With two and three bedroom units, PHR is able to offer housing opportunities to single individuals, couples and families.
